About Tom Nochera

Thanks for stopping by! I’m Tom Nochera, and I write children’s books. I live with my wife, Flo, and our three kids, Zahra (six), Zac (three), and Cyrus (one) in Northern Virginia. I graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School in 1988 and from the University of Maryland in 1993 with a BA in English and American Literature. I self-published my first book of poems for kids, A Place That’s Fun, in 2013 under the pen name Ichabod Ablegoose and A Goat Named Joey with Mascot Books in 2019.

Before I began writing stories for children, I worked for several start-up companies, writing technical manuals and marketing copy for the technology industry, but found it as much fun as eating bark off a tree. I currently work in catering in Washington, D.C. while continuing to grow my writing career.

My children are my greatest inspiration and have introduced the phrase “poopy diaper” into my regular lexicon. They have some pretty cool nicknames—Zizzle, Zac-Attack, Cy-My-Guy, (formerly) Little Lady Poopalot, and (now) Little Mister Poopalot. My goal as a parent is to help them grow up with vibrant imaginations and help them develop many friendships, both real and imaginary.
